San Javier & Santiago De La Ribera:

Santiago de la Ribera is a beautiful coastal town and one of the larger resorts located on the interior coastline of the Mar Menor. It is just a 30 minute drive from the new Region of Murcia International Airport and around 50 minutes from Alicante International Airport.

The town started life as a small fishing village and has grown into a cosmopolitan beach resort, attracting visitors from across Europe. It has a long, picturesque, palm tree lined promenade which runs for several kilometres north towards the neighbouring resort of Lo Pagan. The seafront offers golden, sandy beaches and has plenty of children's play parks and chiringuitos (beach bars) along it's entire length. From the Marina here you can also take a boat trip around the calm waters of the Mar Menor or a ferry across to the Tomas Maestre Marina located at La Manga Strip on the opposite side of the bay. There are shops, bars, restaurants located on the sea front and in the town centre and for the night owls there is a good choice of music bars and discos which stay open until the very small hours during Summer. This is a very picturesque and unspoilt Spanish beach resort with something to offer for all ages and interests.

Santiago De La Ribera is also home to Spain's version of the Red Arrows, Patrulla Águilas (Eagles Patrol), who can regularly be seen practising over the San Javier and Santiago De La Ribera and out over the Mar Menor Sea.

San Javier is about 2km inland and is the main city to which the coastal area of Santiago De La Ribera is directly connected. In the centre of San Javier you will find a bustling, pedestrianised shopping centre with a picturesque church square surrounded by bars and restaurants at it's heart. There is a weekly market every Thursday morning and one in Santiago De La Ribera every Wednesday.

San Javier also has an out of town retail park and a large indoor shopping mall and leisure complex which features a multi-screen cinema, bowling centre and numerous high street fashion shops, electrical superstores and a Carrefour hypermarket. San Javier also has numerous fantastic furniture stores, including Spain's first DFS, a Decathlon sports superstore, a huge public sports complex and even an Iceland Overseas supermarket!

The city also hosts one of Spain's best annual Jazz festivals which attracts big name artists and fans from all over the world.
